Today public toilets are available everywhere for the people who are out of their homes or travelling. Most of the public toilets have urinals for male in which a person urinates in standing position. Let's have a look what islam says about it.
Our beloved Prophet (ï·º) always used to sit while urinating because once ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: “Whoever tells you that the Prophet (ï·º) used to urinate standing up, do not believe him. He only ever used to urinate sitting down.” - [Ahmed 25653, Nisai 229, Ibn Majah 307]. Thus it is the sunnah of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ï·º) to urinate sitting down.
But there is a case when Prophet Muhammad (ï·º) urinated while standing. Hazrat Hudhayfah narrated: "I saw Allah's Messenger (ï·º) coming to the dumps of some people and urinated there while standing." - [Sahih al-Bukhari 2471]. Maybe the the place was not suitable for sitting at that time, or maybe Prophet (ï·º) had a pain or injury in the leg at that moment, or maybe Prophet (ï·º) wanted to give a message that urinating while standing is not haram . Whatever the reason was, it clearly reveals that urinating while standing is not haram.
Thus urinating while standing is not haram but it is disliked and against sunnah because Prophet (ï·º) used to sit while urinating in his daily life routine.
